Whether it’s for business or pleasure, traveling can be a very fun activity. But paying too much for travel can spoil the fun. This article will address a few ways you can help to minimize travel expenses.

When traveling in different countries, instead of exchanging cash for the local currency, use an ATM to withdrawal some pocket money. The exchange rate should be better. You end up with more savings if you go to a bank.

When you travel abroad, make sure you have certain types of info on you at all times. This should include the address, phone number and website of your consulate or embassy in the country in which you are traveling. If you get into any trouble while abroad, this is the first place you need to contact. They can help with the issues you experience.

Be aware that in some foreign cities many criminals will pose as policemen. You must not give anyone your original passport; it may be gone for good if you do. Walk or drive your own car to a police station if you are asked to. Don’t enter a vehicle with a local you don’t know.

Research before booking. Find websites that have reviews of the locations you plan to go. If you know someone who has already visited this destination, ask them about their experiences. Doing all the research you can will help you learn what to expect and what things to do after you arrive.

Make a list of things you need to pack. Start as soon as you can before your trip, that way you can add your must-have items to the list as you think of them. Even if you won’t have time to pack until the last minute, having a list will keep you organized.

Check the alarm in your hotel room when you arrive. Whether by simple accident or obnoxious prank, many a traveler has been awakened early in the morning or worse, in the middle of the night, by the alarm clock at their bedside. Turn the alarm off, or set it when you want to get up, if you want your vacation to start in a relaxing way.

Be sure a friend or family member has access to your itinerary while you are traveling. Then they’ll know where you are. Ensure your safety by regularly contacting someone back at home. As long as they receive regular contact from you, they will not worry.

Be sure to check the room’s alarm clock. Whether by a silly prank or accident, many travelers wake up early or late at night due to the alarm by the bed. Don’t let this bother you on your first day in town!

Always be kind, and tip your bell waiter and housekeeper daily. This will make your stay much more pleasant. Standard tips are generally $1 for each piece of luggage, and $2-$5 for the housekeeper each day of your stay. If you tip well, you are more likely to get good service and be on good terms with hotel staff during your stay.

Travel is a great opportunity to learn more things. Even developing countries can be perfectly safe if you plan carefully for safety, and it’s an awesome learning experience for your children. Viewing the lives of others is an amazing way to build an understanding and tolerance of different cultures.

When traveling by air you should wear comfortable shoes which can be slipped off easily. Most of the time, airport security will ask you to briefly remove them. The most important thing is comfort. In airports and on planes, you will not walk that much, but you will sit a lot; therefore heavy-duty support isn’t necessary. Flip-flops or slip-on shoes are recommended for air travel.

Make sure you check out social websites or forums geared toward travelers. On these sites you will learn everything you need to know about the location you are traveling to. You can meet friends, learn about great travel destinations, and find out where to avoid.

When you use tips like these and travel smart, a lot of the minor annoyances get smoothed out of your journey. When you save money, and don’t have to worry about the cash you are wasting, the entire trip is more fun. You can just think of what a smart traveler you really are.

If one has their motorcycle license, a motorcycle can be a good means of travel for road trips or day trips. They are fuel efficient, fast and fun! It can be great fun to travel by motorcycle.
